Big Star – Holocaust (1978; Third)

Entgegen meinem Vorhaben, auch dieses Jahr dem Musikfestival Primavera Sound fernzubleiben, habe ich mir heute Morgen den Trip ins dann hoffentlich wiederum sehr sonnige Barcelona trotzdem gegönnt. Die Verlockung der gestern bestätigten, ziemlich grossartigen Acts war einfach zu gross. Und dann gab es ja noch diese Meldung hier:  A new supergroup will also perform in tribute to power pop icons Big Star, performing the band’s 1978 album Third. The group includes Jody Stephens (Big Star), Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Chris Stamey (the dB’s), Ken Stringfellow (Posies), R.E.M. producer Mitch Easter (Let’s Active), and Brett Harris. The performance will also include appearances by the singers Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo), Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), and more. Pure Vernunft darf niemals siegen. Ja.

This Mortal Coil – Song to the Siren (1984: It’ll End In Tears)

Weihnachten ist, wenn man sich selber was Gutes tut. In dem Falle leistete ich mir das hübsche und streng  limitierte, vermutlich aber auch absolut überteuerte, Boxset von This Mortal Coil, dem 4AD All-Star Projekt welche 3 Alben lang mit atmosphärisch-fragilen Coverversionen von u.a Big Star, Roy Harper oder auch Tim Buckley von sich reden machte.
